Bahrain BIC will host the first F1 race of 2010 on March 14. In this section, we bring you the preview of the Bahrain GP 2010 including F1 teams and drivers. Before starting this, we want to remind everyone of the last 3 seasons in Formula1 Racing. In 2007 Michael Schumacher was denied a championship by Fernando Alonso. In 2008, Lewis Hamilton just managed to win the championship. In 2009, we all witnessed how Brawn in its opening season won the hearts of many and a close championship win for Jenson Button. After three seasons of extreme F1 action, fans will be expecting a lot more this time.
The sand dunes of Bahrain will come alive as the 2010 season kicks off in March. The three best new things that will happen to Formula1 in 2010 will inrigue all F1 fans. 1. The top teams in F1 will create a fierce competition for each other. 2. Three new teams will be participating in the 2010 F1 season making it a total of 13 teams on the grid. 3. No mid-race re-fuelling.
The top teams in the 2010 season look good and one cannot point out a clear winner. During the February testing, all the top teams looked good. No one failed and none had an upper hand over the other. Brawn Mercedes and Red Bull are neck to neck and will be given a tough competition by Ferrari and Mclaren Mercedes. And while we talk about the top teams, we must not forget Force India, Williams and Sauber. All the three teams got within half second of the best time clocked by the top teams. Its clear that a single error will put you back from pole position to midfield.
Now, if we talk about drivers, all this becomes all the more interesting. Its the comeback year of Michael Schumacher with Mercedes F1 GP. Michael has already made his presence felt during the testing season by showing how comfortable he is at the wheel. And I don’t know if too many fans would have actually thought of Michael Schumacher racing full time and that too for some other team than Ferrari. But its all happening in 2010 and Bahrain will host the first Formula1 Grand Prix on March 14th.
Now consider two cool drivers, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. WE all know the potential in Fernando Alonso if he is given a competitive car and we also saw what can happen if Sebastian Vettel gets a fast car. Its going t be tough for everyone this season. And we can assure you of great racing action in 2010.
Now lets talk about our 2009 F1 Champion – Jenson Button. Button, has definitely taken a bold decision to give up his winning car and race alongside Lewis Hamilton and defend the title. Isn’t that too much of an ask? But Jenson knows best and we trust his decision. I am sure Button wants to prove a point here and he will be eyeing a back to back Championship to get included in the greats of F1 Racing.
Talking about the new entrants in Formula1, it was quite disappointing to see UD F1 pulling out of the 2010 season. Campos survived a scare and thankfully Carbante came to their rescue. However, this will be Hispania’s first race and test. I am sure they also don’t know how the car will behave on the track. Virgin F1 Racing looks like the quickest and best of the lot. Lotus F1 is slightly slow but reliable.
No one knows exactly how the race will shape up under the new no mid race refuelling. We said last time, that this year belongs to the drivers. They will have to be quick, efficient and will have to maximise their car performance in fuel saver mode. Now that’s quite a challenge. The good thing is that they can still change the tyres for an optimum mileage and grip. Get ready for the pit crew’s art once again. Fast tyre change will be the mantra and you will not see a stop of more than 3 seconds. One hell of a task to manage that!
The main reason for Bahrain return to the opening slot is that Melbourne has produced some unusual results in the very first race. Probably the FIA thought it leads to a lot of chaos in the very fist race. Sometimes, there will be a clear winner but at times there will be anarchy on the track.
Bahrain is lucky and its a great achievement for everyone responsible for the BIC. All this will unfold on March 14th and we will update you on live F1 action.
The Bahrain Grand Prix Circuit for 2010 tested by Red Bull F1 driver, Mark Webber (courtesy Racing Bulls TV). Bahrain Circuit will host the first race of the Formula 1 season. Bahrain Circuit dimensions:
Lenght: 6. 3 kms
Laps: 49
Maximum Speed: 308 kms/hr
There will be four high speed stretches, 6 low speed corners and 3 ideal spots for drivers to overtake other cars in the Bahrain Grand Prix for 2010.
Corners of the Bahrain Grand Prix Circuit as described by Mark Webber:
Breaking very very hard for the first corner and a very slow hairpin. Towards turn 4 the circuit is very open and wide but then you have to break hard for the corner. After turn 4, the drivers will shift to the new part of the track which is very slow. Two right hand corners with the second one being extremely tight. Then come down the hill to a very tight right hand corner at the bottom of the hill. After the penultimate corner, the track is straight. However, wind conditions play a very crucial role in Bahrain and the drivers will have to be very careful with their top speeds and slow corners. The last corner is slightly a blind entry and its very easy to run out of the road on exit.
That was Bahrain F1 Circuit for the 2010. We do have a video for you.
Finally, its out. The news is that US F1 Racing will not be participating in 2010 F1 season. Its unfortunate for Formula 1 and American F1 fans who were looking forward to an all American outfit.
Ken Anderson, the team principal confirmed that the US F1 team will not race for the 2010 season and that they have applied to the FIA to hold its entry until 2011. He also confirmed that US F1 is not shutting down but the staff has been sent on unpaid leave. Anderson added that this was suppose to be confidential but someone has leaked the information to the media,
US F1 is working with the FIA and hopefully they will come out with the solution. However, its too late for this season. US F1’s demise has created a vacancy for the 2010 F1 season and Stefan GP will be hopeful to fill this spot. But everything is in the hands of FIA. It can either allow Stefan GP and late entry into F1 2010 season or go with only 12 teams instead of originally planned 13. We will let you know.
Campos Meta will now race the F1 2010 season under the name – Hispania Racing F1 Team. Spaniard Jose Ramon Carabante acquired Campos Meta from Adrian Campos after Campos was struggling with its finances. However, Adrian Campos is likely to stay as Executive Vice President of Hispania F1 Racing Team.
The team will be based out of Campos Meta’s factory in Alzira for the 2010 season. Colin Kolles will be the team principal of Hispania Racing. The team hopes of a successful debut in Bahrain on March 14, 2010. The new team will be presented in Spain on Thursday where it will announce its two main drivers for the 2010 F1 season.
Karun Chandhok, the Indian motorsport hero has finally closed the deal with Campos Meta F1 Racing Team. Yesterday Campos Meta Team Principal, Colin Kolles confirmed that Karun was very close to signing a deal with Campos Meta.
Karun Chandhok will be the second Indian driver after Narain Karthikeyan to race for a Formula 1 team. Karthikeyan did this in 2005 with Team Jordan. Interestingly Narain Karthikeyan was also signed by Colin Kolles for Jordan.
Karun’s deal with Campos Meta will surely interest Indian fans who thought that some Indian will drive for Force India. After last year’s announcement by Force India, it seems that this is the biggest announcement for Indian F1 fans. Karun we wish you all the luck and hope you will be the best rookie in 2010.
